Why Real Estate?
Why Real Estate? That my brothers and sisters is a great question. The year was 1996, Paris and I purchased out first house in Santa Clarita California. The main line that connects the home to the street needed replacement to the tune of $10K. I called the agent that represented us by telephone, we closed 2 days before the plumbing stopped working completely, and left a message.
I must have left too much information on the message. He did not call back. I left another and a third, still no call back. I went to his office, but he was unavailable. I called the agent as asked if the seller had any idea that the main needed replacement, because on the disclosures there was nothing mentioned. The other agent told me that the seller never had a problem. So, I am thinking I must be crazy, in a two day period, the main got so bad as to present a problem where the plumbing needed to be replaced?
I had no where to turn. I was putting dishes away in the kitchen and noticed on the inside of one of the cabinets there were about 12 stickers from various plumbing companies. I do not know why I did not see this before, I started calling around. It seems that I had been lied to. I called the agent I used to announce the smoking gun. I got him on the phone and he told me that this would only create problems for the other people involved and I should just consider it the price to pay for home ownership.
After he hung up on me, I called him again to received his message service. Over the next two weeks I called and he did not return my call. I called his Broker, left a message and still never a call back. I had to play dirty, I had a buddy of mine from work call the agent an pose as a really interested buyer, and asked the agent to meet him at a property that "my buddy" was interested in buying.
I met my past agent. He was apparently surprised. I was able to get my point across and the main was fixed.
The point was that I was completely without any knowledge of what my rights were. Paris and I were dumbfounded and needed to find out more about this thing called "Real Estate" to answer so many questions that we had. After the course, we figured that other had experienced similar things when they bought and sold Real Estate and it was best that we offer a service that has something different to offer.
